The Story Behind the Collection
The story behind this collection centres on my grandpa, his beautiful garden, and his fascination with nature. Memories of walking hand in hand with him among the flowers and plants, listening as he explained their Latin names and families, form the emotional foundation of the collection. The designs seek to immortalise these joyful moments and immerse the viewer in the beauty of this natural landscape.
Images from this garden and my own garden at home serve as the primary sources for the designs. Each flower and plant is carefully researched, illustrating an understanding beyond the purely visual and reflecting the care and attentiveness my grandpa showed towards the natural world.
The collection also draws on historical influences, both stylistically and philosophically. Eighteenth-century decorative styles such as chinoiserie and toile inform the compositional and ornamental language of the work, while the period’s enduring appreciation for craftsmanship, beauty, and the natural world shapes the broader design approach. Through this, the collection aims to continue and elevate these timeless decorative traditions.
